As summer really heats up, I find myself checking out every new SPF that arrives on the shelves. There are new lotions, creams, tinted moisturizers, sprays, and my new faves - sticks. SPF sticks are great for quick reapplication and to apply on the face/body without getting your hands greasy. They tend to be dryer than lotions/creams, are quick absorbing and as a bonus, you don't have to worry about them opening up in your bag and spilling all over your wallet. Less mess is always ok with me!
For summer 2017, Coola has introduced 3 new clean mineral sunscreen sticks- all are SPF 50 and have slight variations. All three contain only zinc oxide as their active ingredient (i.e. no chemical sunscreens), are rated SPF 50, Water-Resistant (80 min), and contain 70% organic ingredients.
The Sport Tinted SPF 50 Stick
The Sport Tinted SPF 50 Stick is fantastic as a light coverage, tinted moisturizer/SPF. It is very creamy but not overly greasy. It gives a dewy finish and the tint is sheer enough to work with a wide variation of skin tones. This sunscreen (as well as the untinted stick) is rated to be "Water Resistant up to 80 minutes" which is the highest rating given by the FDA. (The term "Water-proof" is no longer allowed given that no sunscreen is water-proof, simply water resistant for various amounts of time.)
I have currently been using this as my skin perfecter while on vacation and it has held up beautifully even through heat and crazy high humidity levels. Don't miss out on this formula for vacations/beauty multitasking. Get yours here!
The Sport Untinted SPF 50 Stick
The untinted version is basically the same formula but without the tint (obviously). It is nearly completely transparent while using only mineral sunscreen actives AND maintaining a SPF 50 rating. Organic tammanu, coconut, avocado, raspberry seed and sunflower oils nourish the skin and provide hydration and antioxidant protection as well (this is also in the Tinted version).
The aroma for both is a light cranberry and pineapple essential oil blend but it smells citrusy to me. It's lovely during application and dissipates quickly.
The Baby SPF 50 Stick
The final element to this hat-trick of sunscreen essentials is the new Baby SPF 50 Stick (Water Resistant 80 min). The main difference between this formula and the previous two is that the Baby Stick:
*does not contain any essential oils and is therefore "unscented"
* is Pediatrician tested
*is even more hydrating/protecting but that means that the formula is thicker and can leave a white-ish cast on even fair skin tones; great for very sensitive/reactive skin types and/or babies skin
I have found this formula to be wonderful for my children but I prefer the look/feel of the first two for myself. All three have been wonderful 'dry' options for sunscreen and a great addition to our sun protection regimen.
Have you tried these formulas? Have you tried other stick sunscreens that you love? You can check Coola out here.
