This month's Beauty Heroes box came not only with the usual clean, green, and well-curated products but also a story. Skin Owl, a Californian indie skincare brand, recently relaunched one of it's best selling products - The Beauty Drops PM. Mangosteen, a key ingredient, was no longer a sustainable option so a reformulation took place. This brand new launch became the September Hero product and I couldn't wait to try it!
The Skin Owl brand has been on my radar for a while now. I had heard raving reviews of the Mangosteen Beauty Drops PM and just as I was about to order one I saw the website notice - (paraphrasing) that there would be no more Mangosteen Beauty Drops PM but that something bigger, better and more sustainable was coming soon. Cryptic, yes, but so exciting! I decided to hold off on my order as I did not want to fall in love with a product that was on it's last batch. I'm so glad that I did.

This month's hero product, and Mangosteen drops replacement, Beauty Drops PM - Maqui Berry fulfills all of it's extensive promises and delivers a beautiful sensory experience to boot.
This month's 'side-kick' product is pretty fab as well (I might actually like it better than the Maqui Berry drops!) - the Beauty Whip is a true delight to the senses as well as a potent hydrator and skin protector.
Skin Owl founder, Annie Tevelin, loved the benefits of Maqui Berry so much that she created a second product to incorporate it into a daily treatment for your skin. This product has so many uses! It can be used in a thick layer as an overnight mask, a regular hydration mask, a moisturizer, or a makeup primer.
This beauty treatment has an amazing array of benefits as well. Hyaluronic Acid draws moisture into the epidermis, organic aloe leaf juice provides water hydration and healing, maqui berry gives an intense anti-oxidant boost (along with Rooibos, Green Tea, and White Tea), and organic evening primrose oil evens hormone imbalances in the skin. This truly does it all!
My favorite way to use it has been as an overnight mask. I keep mine in the refrigerator to keep it thick and chilled (the oils tend to liquify in warmer temperatures so shake it up if it separates). 3-4 pumps later I apply it over my Beauty Drops PM and off to sleep I go! In the morning my skin is hydrated, plump, and ready to go. The Beauty Whip seals in the Beauty Drops PM and creates a cocoon of healing hydration as I get my beauty rest. Sounds good to me!
Note: I tend to be very sensitive to aromas. I experienced a strong alcohol smell from this product upon first application. It quickly dissipates leaving only a light herbaceous aroma behind. I reached out to Annie, founder of Skin Owl, and she informed me that it is a remnant of the green tea and rooibos extraction processes. She recommended storing it in the fridge to reduce the aroma and to add a drop of geranium or lavender essential oil to it if needed.
Ingredients: Organic Aloe Leaf Juice (Aloe Barbadensis), Organic Olive Fruit Oil (Olea Europaea), Organic Alcohol, Organic Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis), Emulsifying Wax (Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Lecithin), Stearic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, MSM (Dimethyl Sulfone), DMAE Bitartrate (Dimethylaminoethanol Bitartrate), Rosehip Seed Oil (Rosa Canina), Organic Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera Biennis), Organic Rooibos Leaf Extract (Aspalathus Linearis), Organic Lavender Extract (Lavandula Angustifolia), Maqui Berry (Aristotelia chilensis) Concentrate Powder, Organic Calendula Flower Extract (Calendula Officinalis), Organic Green Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia Sinensis), Organic White Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia Sinensis), Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Sunflower Seed Oil (Helianthus Annuus), Xanthan Gum
This month was another home run for me. I loved trying out a new-to-me brand and even newer products. These products are perfect for the transition to cooler, drier weather and I appreciate that they can be used on nearly everyone. I also love the quality over quantity approach to slow beauty.
I can't wait to see what next month has in store!
Have you tried these? have you tried beauty heroes? What did you think?
