I've always had a love/hate relationship with my curls. I loved the bounce, the movement, and the care-free idea of it but I could never seem to get the frizz under control. If I finally reduced the frizz then I had to wash everyday to keep my roots from getting oily. It was a constant battle. This was especially true after my second child was born. My scalp was flaky and oily, my hair dry, and my curls sagged. Chalk it up to hormones but I was finally ready to make a haircare change.
I finally decided to take the plunge and try out clean + green indie beauty brands to get out of my funk. I've been on the green skin care, makeup, and living journey for quite some time but I had not taken the HUGE step in undertaking clean hair products. It was not easy folks. There is an adjustment period so be prepared.
I think my curls have found a new groove after a few weeks on my new regimen. I only need to wash my hair 2-3 times per week (max) and my hair is shiny, bouncy, and I'm loving it!
The new Routine
My new routine is just too easy.
Step #1 Wash with either Josh Rosebrook Balance Shampoo or Innersense Pure Harmony Hairbath. Make sure to thoroughly soak your hair before applying at the roots. I leave it in for 2-3 minutes to give it a chance to break down dirt, debris, and oils. I have an oily scalp so you may not need to do this.
Step #2 Condition with either Josh Rosebrook Balance Conditioner or Innersense Pure Inspiration Daily Conditioner. I love both equally so I tend to switch off my conditioner depending on which shampoo I'm using. Apply a small amount to the ends of my hair and comb through. I leave it on for 2-3 minutes and rinse several times and then wrap my hair in a dry towel (no rubbing!).
Step #3 Finger comb hair or use a wide tooth comb while your hair is wet. Next, taking a dime size amount of the Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control Cream, I scrunch it into my hair while avoiding the roots. This cream is fantastic for smoothing curls and reducing frizz.
Step #4 Take a dime size amount of the Josh Rosebrook Styling Cream (medium hold) and scrunch it into the hair. I finger curl my hair in the front to keep the curls from falling into my face all day and that's it!
Step #5 Leave your hair alone and allow it to air dry. This can be the hardest part but remember that you'll create frizz if you mess with your hair too much while it's drying.
Voila! Easy, smooth curls with clean ingredients and no toxic overload!
