Beneath Your Mask is a brand I recently discovered when visiting the Indie Beauty Expo in Dallas.
They currently have four bodycare products that focus on pure (think organic, certified organic, and wild harvested) ingredients, clean non-toxic formulas, and a luxurious experience (read about the BYM brand here).
Which brings us to Heal: Whipped Skin Soufflé. Heal does just what the name says, it heals...and hydrates, and soothes, and smells divine! This was amazing on its own but even more fantastic layered over BYM's Indulge: Total Body Elixir (read review here).
I believe there are 2 types of people in the world: the first loves to feel absolutely nothing on their skin after moisturizing and the second likes to FEEL like there's a hydration barrier between their skin and the rest of the world. Heal: Whipped Skin Soufflé is for latter. That does not mean that it is heavy- it actually feels incredibly light and airy when applying. It does stick around to create a healing topical barrier. The whipped nature of it keeps the texture fluffy while still laying on some major healing moisture.
Shea Butter, non-GMO Plant Sourced Vitamin E, *Grapeseed Oil, *Sweet Almond Oil, *Avocado Oil, wild harvested Golden Jojoba Oil, Pure AEA Certified Emu Oil, *Lemongrass Essential Oil, organic Lavender Population Essential Oil, *Tea Tree Essential Oil
The standouts for me in this list?
#1 Avocado Oil- I can never say too many good things about it. Avocado oil contains Vitamin E, relieves itchy/dry skin, absorbs deep into the skin, and contains Vitamins A, D, C, K AND fatty acids! Phew!
#2 AEA certified Emu Oil - Emu Oil has long been revered for it's intensely healing, hydrating, and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains Omega 3,6,and 9 fatty acids which is great for healing. Note: this is not suitable for vegetarians/vegans as Emu's are large birds and obviously not plants! This ingredient in the whip would be a great option for people who have compromised skin barrier function such as eczema sufferers.
#3 Golden Jojoba Oil- This nutritive 'oil' is actually a plant wax. It very closely mimics our skin's natural oils and therefore is readily absorbed and a great carrier oil for skin care. It seals in moisture and repairs the skin barrier.
Overall, this smelled fabulous - not a surprise after trying all of the other BYM products. I love how the essential oils also have therapeutic benefits - antiseptic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and aromatherapy!
It felt great, smooth and just heavy enough to keep my drier areas (i.e. knees, heals, elbows, etc) from getting rough through out the day. Personally I preferred the feel of the Indulge: Total Body Elixir but that's mostly personal preference and I prefer to use products without the animal fats- again a personal choice.
Side Note: If Emu oil is a deal breaker- try the Indulge: Total Body Elixir (can you tell I love that stuff!) and layer some pure shea butter on top to seal it in. It may not be quite as luxurious but you get the sealant action of the shea and all of the heavy hitters in the Elixir as well. Win win!
